A man from Middletown, Delaware was fined Tuesday after pleading guilty in federal court to one misdemeanor charge of taking butterflies from protected lands without permission. He could have received up to one year in jail and a $10,000 fine. They cost Joseph R. Wampler Jr. $200. Wampler raised suspicions almost as soon as he walked into the office of the Great Dismal Swamp Wildlife Refuge on June 16, refuge manager Deloras Freeman told the AP.

A 500 pound salad is serving as a reward and symbol of the collective pounds lost by a group of West Virginia dieters. Twenty-seven people participated in the Tug River Health Association's weight management program - losing a collective 500 pounds over a five month period ending March 1.

A hospital in Virginia is making up for slow service by giving patients in the emergency room who wait over 30 minutes for a doctor free movie tickets. Pam Hash, administrative director of emergency services at the newly opened St. Francis Medical Center says, "Shortening emergency room waiting times is part of a hospital-wide initiative aimed at improving patient care.

Miners are returning to work at the Sago Mine, in West Virginia, 2 and a half months after an accident killed 12 of their colleagues. Rocky Starkey, 49, has worked at Sago Mine for over 3 years and says, "Everybody I've talked to is ready to go back. "

A 22-year old pregnant woman is under arrest in Suffolk, Virginia, accused of illegally inducing an abortion by shooting herself in the stomach. Tammy Skinner is also charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and filing a false police report. She was found with a gunshot wound to her stomach last Tuesday, the same day she was due to give birth.
