According to an article published by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the war in Lebanon and increased border security with Palestine and Egypt has caused the price of marijuana to rise eightfold.

Smoking and distributing cannabis are illegal in Israel.

The high price of the illegal plant is believed to be a direct result of supply shortages caused by increased security along Israel's northern border with Lebanon following its war against Hezbollah.

At a briefing concerning security and drug trafficking held in an Israeli village near the border with Lebanon, one Israeli official said, "while we are sitting here, dozens of kilos of drugs are making their way into Israel through the village." He further claimed that Hezbollah militants use drug exchange with local Israeli villagers to gather intelligence.

Increased border security along the Israeli-Egyptian border, meant to deter gun smuggling into Gaza, has also disrupted marijuana smuggling, increasing the street price of the plant.
