A recent survey conducted to mark National Geographic's awareness week has revealed that a third of Britons do not know the exact location of the world's tallest peak, Mount Everest believing the mountain lies somewhere in Europe. Aside from the Everest confusion, the survey also bared that half of the Britons are not aware that the Nile is the world's longest river.

Five-time champion John "Johnny Liar" Graham, 69, has been crowned again the "world's biggest liar" after claiming to have stumbled upon a German World War II submarine invading Whitehaven, the first town in Britain to switch from analogue to digital television. The Germans wanted to capture digital television decoders, Graham claimed during the annual competition of tall tales held at the Bridge Inn in Britain's Lake District national park.

Four war-displaced Japanese who were living in China after the World War II have finally arrived home on Monday. The three men and one woman were recognized by the Japanese and Chinese governments as "war orphans" Zhao Ji, 65, Li Fengchao, 65, Liu Guoxin, 66, and Chen Fenglan, 67, will visit Japan; there is no word on if they will stay. An appointment was made with Liu and his possible half brother in Ibaraki on Wednesday. "I want to hear about my father and myself," said Liu. "I would like to visit my father's grave and Miyagi Prefecture, where my roots are. "

The Blickling Hall has been named the National Trust's most haunted property. The stately home in Norfolk is said to be haunted by three spectres including the headless ghost of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII, who was beheaded in 1536.

A Japanese soldier from World War II stationed in Burma (now Myanmar), sent a postcard to his friend was received after 64 years after it was sent. The postcard was kept by a former U. S. soldier and a Japanese exchange student. According to Mukogawa Women's University, the card traveled in three different countries and one state, including Burma, Nagasaki, Arizona and Hawaii before reaching Shizuo Nagano, 80, in southern Kochi prefecture.
