Japan's Green Polar Bears Will Go Back To Normal, Eventually

Polar bears at the Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens in central Japan are turning green. The phenomenon has a logical reason though, which is that the pond they swim in gathers harmless algae in the warm months, which adhere to the hollow places in a polar bear's fur. According to Associated Press, the algae is also more abundant than usual because the pond water is being changed less often due to conservation efforts.

Bobcats Make Residence In Foreclosed House In California

A family of bobcats has moved into one of the many foreclosed houses in an upscale community in Southern California. According to the Los Angeles Times, neighbors in the Tuscany Hills community spotted the felines lounging around and on the Spanish-style house and called authorities thinking the cats were mountain lions. When authorities arrived, they found two adult bobcats and three kittens living in the spacious house.

Coroner Rules Woman Found Dead In Blood-Smeared Condo Died From Water Overdose

The Macomb County, Michigan coroner ruled Friday that a 42-year-old woman found dead last month in her blood-covered condo without any sign of injuries to her body died of drinking too much water. The coroner reportedly found that Andrea Jean Bean had died of low sodium levels from a medical condition that caused her to drink large quantities of water, which in turn triggered an electrolyte imbalance in her body that disrupted her heart's rhythm, resulting in a seizure and eventually death.

Sixteen Hammerhead Shark Pups Perish In Illegal Net In Hawaii

The bodies of more than a dozen hammerhead sharks were recovered from an illegal gill net in Kane'ohe Bay, a mating area for hammerheads near the Waikalua Fish Pond. All the sharks were pups and they were found by a Nature Conservancy team on patrol in the area on Thursday.

Two Men Sail Across Pacific In Raft Made Of Water Bottles

Two men have successfully sailed from California to Hawaii in a raft made of plastic bottles and Cessna airplane parts. Dr. Marcus Eriksen and Joel Paschal built their raft, which they named "Junk," out of 15,000 plastic bottles and a Cessna 310 fuselage. The purpose of their journey was to bring attention to the massive amount of plastic floating at sea.
