A man's life was spared during a store robbery as a bullet fired by the robber was deflected by his wedding ring.

Donnie Register, was held at gunpoint by one of the two men robbing his store The Antique Market, said Sgt. Jeffery Scott. The robbers started by walking into the store asking to see a coin collection. As Register retrieved the collection, one of the men then pulled out a gun, pointed it at Register, and demanded money.

The gun was fired at some point.

"The bullet managed to go through two of his fingers without severing the bone," wife Darlene Register said, as quoted by USA Today. "A part of the bullet broke off and is in his middle finger."

Darlene continued to say the other part of the bullet was lodged into Donnie's neck, within the muscle tissue. The wound, however, was not fatal.

The Associated Press reported that the couple recognized one of the robbers.

"One of those men had been in the shop previously a time or two," recalled Darlene. "They probably had cased the shop."

Police revealed that the robbers had gotten away with a significant amount of cash. Investigations are currently under way to apprehend the thieves.
