The city of Toronto logged 2008 as its wettest summer in seven decades. On midnight Saturday, the city's rainfall for June 1 to Aug 9 had amounted to 1. 16 feet (354. 2 millimeters) and broken the previous record of 1. 10 feet (335. 9 mm) set in 1986 during two months.

Two men and a juvenile have been charged with possessing more than 1,000 marijuana plants with the intent to distribute after more that 5,000 plants were found growing at a Girl Scout camp. Mario Comacho, 44, and Mariano Gonzales, 38, were charged with growing thousands of marijuana plants on land belonging to the Limberlost Girl Scout Council, which runs Camp Ella J. Logan in the area where the plants were discovered by Indiana State Troopers while searching the land by plane.

New York's commuters are up in arms against the five-hour simultaneous closing of all 78 subway toilets from midnight to 5 a. m. The New York Transit, through spokesman Charles Seaton, defended the new policy implemented the past few weeks, as its way of making the riding public more comfortable by setting exclusive window hours for its maintenance staff to clean the toilets.

The leaning tower of Pisa has officially lost its distinction as the world's most lopsided building after a German church steeple that tilts at a 5. 19 degree angle secured the honor in the Guinness Book of World Records. The church tower in the village of Suurhusen applied for official recognition in June, and has just received verification. In confirming the award, Guinness said the Suurhusen church easily beats the tower of Pisa, which leans at only 3. 97 degrees.

A saltwater crocodile in Australia spent overnight in jail for troublemaking. Authorities in Nhulunbuy, Northern Australia were forced to lock the crocodile in an unused cell after finding no other options to hold off the seven-foot reptile. Police responded to reports about a crocodile harassing fishermen at a local boat ramp.
