A Japanese restaurant has come up with a fried whaleburger to attract the younger set. BBC reports that the sandwich, which features fried whale meat nestled in a bun with salad greens and lashings of mayonnaise and ketchup-based sauce, is the creation of a small whale restaurant in the town of Wada, about 100 km (62 miles) southeast of Tokyo.

The Navy's use of sonar during maritime exercises may have contributed to the mass stranding of more than 150 whales in Hawaii's Hanalei Bay two years ago, government scientists said. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the finding along with information from other studies has led it to ask the Navy to reduce its sonar's power during exercises planned this summer in Hawaiian waters.

A five-member team from the Rhode Island Paranormal Research group visited Mystic Seaport on Friday night to spend time on the Charles W. Morgan, a wooden whaling ship where several visitors have reported seeing ghosts. The 165-year-old craft made 37 ocean voyages in search of whales during the 60 years it was in use. About 1,000 men worked on the Morgan over those decades.

Hours after three whales were euthanized when scientists determined they were too sick to be saved, the body of a rare, melon headed whale washes ashore on South Hutchinson Island. According to Steven McCullough, executive director of marine mammal research and conservation at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, the latest whale was discovered at about 11 p. m. Wednesday.

The London Natural History Museum is exhibiting one of the largest giant squids ever put on display. BBC News reports that a trawler captured the squid off the coast of the Falkland Islands. Measuring 28 feet, it is one of the most complete squids ever found.
