A female Eastern box turtle called Turtle No. 72 has led Washington police to a well-tended marijuana garden in Rock Creek Park. The turtle is one of 135 wired animals with a small radio transmitter on its shell to provide scientists data on turtle movements. The six-inch turtle wanders through 50 acres near the District-Maryland boundary.

A new air speed record was set at the Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Wednesday when pilot Jon Sharp flew 3 kilometers in just 18. 75 seconds. Sharp, who founded Nemesis Air Racing in Mojave, California with his wife Patricia in 1990, broke the 19-year-old record of 331 mph when his Nemesis NXT hit 356 mph on a speed run above thousands of fans. Crowds gathered to watch Sharp, who helped pioneer the design for neoteric experimental technology (NXT) kit aircraft, who will try again on Saturday to go even faster.

Hundreds of fans and flight enthusiasts here at AirVenture 2008 were wowed on Tuesday as a New Zealand family debuted the Martin Jetpack, dubbed the "ultimate personal flying machine. "Inventor Glenn Martin said the device, which can fly a 280-pound passenger for 30 minutes, is "the world's first practical jetpack. " After spending 27 years developing the jetpack, the 48-year-old Glenn has involved his wife Vanessa and his two sons. Harrison, 16, test-flew the jetpack Tuesday at the Experimental Aircraft Association's (EAA) AirVenture 2008.

Passengers in a small small plane sustained minor injuries after the crashing in someone's front yard shortly after taking off. Then, the family of three called a taxi to take them to the hospital. The pilot, Paul Kaemmerling, his wife Kim and their 14-year-old daughter from Liberty, Texas were all on board the plane when it either lost power or hadn't gained enough altitude, investigators told a local NBC affiliate.

A 79-year-old man watching the construction of a church here from inside his car died when a crane hoisting a steeple collapsed and crashed on him Thursday. Winfred Stafford of Oklahoma City was crushed in the front seat of his Toyota Avalon in the parking lot of the new Grace Assembly of God church.
