A Canadian woman and her 1-year-old dog ended up in the hospital with almost identical symptoms after the two ate the same moist pet food that was recalled in North America some time back.
In an attempt to trick her terrier into trying a new kind of food, Elaine Larabie ate it herself and suffered from "embarrassing" symptoms including foaming at the mouth, problems urinating, vomiting and loss of appetite.
According to Canada.com, Larabie soon suspected she and her new dog, Missy, fell victim to the same pet food that had been contaminated with rodent-killing medicine and recalled. Missy was admitted to a veterinary care facility but is said to be safe now.
However, Larabie is awaiting lab results from her hospitalization. When she contacted Iams, the manufacturer of the food, it confirmed she had indeed eaten the contaminated dog food that had been recalled.
Iams has assured Larabie that they will cover her medical bills. She is still awaiting her blood tests to decide whether she will sue the company.
