A 24-year old woman died of burn injuries after her husband set her on fire on New Year's Eve in Sarangani province south of the Philippines.
Berlin Alit died at the Ospital ng Sarangani before doctors could treat her burns, reported GMANews.TV quoting a radio report by DZRH on Tuesday.
Berlin was drenched by gasoline following her husband's pouring all over her with gasoline and setting her on fire with a lighter.
Berlin's husband Allan attempted to save her. The husband, who just came home from a drinking session with friends prior to the incident, sustained minor burns.
Allan, 23, was reported to have been embarrassed by Berlin's earlier berating him during his drinking spree with friends 9 a.m. EST (10 p.m. Philippine time) of New Year's Eve.
When Allan followed her, who went to their house, the two had a heated argument that led to his setting his wife aflame with a lighter, concluded GMANews.TV.
In October 2005,www.wtop.com reported that a man, who had set his estranged wife on fire inside a mobile phone where she worked for, faced attempted murder and assault charges.
Before the arrest of Roger Brian Hargrave, 33, in District Heights Parkway in Clinton, Maryland, the victim's sister told police Hargrave is "not in the right frame of mind."
