Hundreds of pop-ups appeared in chat rooms revealing angry woman everywhere in response to an article published in the opinion section of Forbes Magazine. The message: "Don't Marry a Career Woman."
Michael Noer's article appeared in the August 22 edition of the magazine. After conjuring some heated responses Forbes pulled the article from the web site and then reposted it with a counterpoint from writer Elizabeth Corcoran titled, "Don't Marry A Lazy Man."
Noer wrote that many social scientist believe men who marry career-driven woman are more likely to have a "rocky" marriage. He said studies suggest that professional woman are more likely to be divorced, cheat, and less likely to have children.
He wrote, "To put it bluntly, the more successful she is, the more likely she is to grow dissatisfied with you. A word of advice -- marry pretty women or ugly ones. Short ones or tall ones. Blondes or brunettes. Just, whatever you do, don't marry a woman with a career."
Many wrote in afterward calling the article prehistoric or outrageous.
One woman said, "I can't even imagine what would make someone say that. It's a throwback to the '70s, '60s or '50s and it's mind boggling."
Another woman said, "This article highlights the epitome of male insecurity. I guess there are still men out there who want their women to just sit and look pretty. How prehistoric and irresponsible of Forbes to perpetuate this ideal."
