A Seattle woman pleaded not guilty to felony charges of providing false information on a voter-registration application. Jane Balogh, 66, registered her dog, Duncan MacDonald, as a voter last year to protest a 2005 state voter-registration statute that she says makes it too easy for non-citizens to vote.
Balogh used picture of a paw print to sign the ballot for at least three election polls, but wrote "Void" on them so that they are not counted.
Balogh had initially said that she would not contest the misdemeanor charges against her but on Thursday she changed her mind because the message she wanted to send was not getting through, her lawyer said.
"She's just kind of annoyed because Duncan's still on the voting rolls," Balogh's attorney Kristen Anderson told the AP.
Balogh could face 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
