In a bid to draw attention to a breast cancer charity walk scheduled in June, a woman from Greenburgh, New York ran the entire length of Long Island without sleeping or stopping.
Alicja Barahona, who works as a chemist, started around 6 a.m. Saturday in Montauk, at the eastern end of the island and finished about 11 a.m. Sunday in North Woodmere Park, on the western end of the island at the New York City border.
AP quotes Barahona, who has competed in ultra distance running events, as saying, "I feel great. No blisters, no cramps, no stiffness."
Even after her 120-mile run of the island over the weekend, Barahona said she planned to be at work Monday. She also plans to resume training soon for a 145-mile race, and to participate in the Long Island 2-Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer in June.
