Next time you see an intruder in your house, you might be able to scare him off with a fake heart attack. An 80-year-old Hampden woman faked a heart attack when she was attacked by an intruder in her own home, watching the Super Bowl alone.
According to police reports, the intruder, Daniel Thanem, 45, of Winterport is a convicted sex offender in Alabama. He was arrested shortly after the attack and charged with aggravated criminal trespass and assault.
When the elderly woman asked the intruder what he was doing at her home, he grabbed her from behind and began pushing her toward the bedroom. The woman reacted promptly pretending she was having a heart attack and told Thanem her heart medication was in her car in the garage.
According to AP reports, the man fled the house after giving her the medications. The police have been praising the woman's "common sense" to avoid becoming another victim.
