Shangai, China - A Chinese court has denied a woman's claims for monetary compensation from a shopping center for her poor sex life. Her husband had an injury at the shopping center that resulted in erectile dysfunction, and the woman said her sex life was ruined after the accident. The compensation included claims for mental anguish and the money she had spend on sex toys.
The woman, 31-year-old Wei Suying, filed a suit in a Shanghai court asking for $27,650. Her husband, Zhang Chengxiang, stumbled and hit his genitals on the corner of some audio equipment while working in the shopping center in 2003.
The shopping center had already paid Zhang $16,340 in compensation in a previous lawsuit.
The Shanghai Daily quotes Wei as saying, "I was not even 30-years-old when my husband had the accident, which deprived me of my right to enjoy sexual life."
But the court said people can only ask of compensation for mental anguish when a relative dies and ruled that Chinese law does not define an individual's sex life as a protected right.
