A 44-year-old flat iron, given as a gift over four decades ago, is still working and used by its recipient up to this day.

Gill Critchett from Southsea, England said she received the Morphy Richards flat iron in 1963 as a wedding gift from her husband Percey.

She has been using the iron since and the old but reliable iron is still hot.

She told The Sun newspaper, "I tend to be quite careful with my things so maybe that's why so much of it still works after all these years

"I don't see the point of getting rid of the old to made way for the new unless you have to."

As for her ironing board and the radio she uses for entertainment, Critichett said she bought both 40 years ago.
