An elderly woman was threatened with a knife by a motorist who blamed her of taking his parking space. The 58-year-old hospital worker parked her black Peugeot 407 in Edinburgh's St Andrew Square when a man shocked her by screaming at her.

With a knife held up to her throat, the attacker shouted, "You have stolen my f***ing parking space." The woman, whose name has not yet been disclosed, offered to leave the space but the attacker refused and continued to abuse her.

According to Scotsman's news, the woman, from the Northfield area of the city, said: "I said I'm sorry, I'll give you my space, I'm too old to fight over a parking space. But then he said, 'It's smart folk like you that's causing all the trouble'. The next thing, he drew a knife and held it to my throat."

Though the woman continued with her shopping but returned to find her car's both wing mirrors had been broken and the paintwork badly scratched. "When he ran away, he said to me in broken English 'you'd better watch your car'. I said I was still willing to give him the space, but he refused."
