An Ohio man and woman, both 24, held their wedding at a nursing home Saturday afternoon. They chose the Jo-Lin Center in Ironton so the groom's mother, who recently suffered a series of strokes, wouldn't miss out on the event.

Aaron Grenier and Michelle Hogsten said they had been planning to get married at Jo-Lin for the past six months. Grenier's mother, Beverly Cade, had been in the home since February and was told by her doctors that leaving wouldn't be a good idea.

"We just wanted her to be able to be here," Grenier said, according to AP. "That was what was important."

The wedding was held in the activity room, and Cade was able to sit in the front seat. If Cade had left the hospital, she would have needed an ambulance to transport her due to the severity of her health problems, according to her husband, Roger.

Cade said, "I was just glad they (Jo-Lin staff) said it was okay. It was up to them and they were happy to have the wedding here."

Many of Jo-Lin's residents were wheeled into the activity room to watch the ceremony, which Cade said they had been anticipating it all week long. They were also invited to the reception.

"It has been a long time since many of them had ever seen a wedding, Jo-Lin's activities director, Peggy Dyer, said. "When we announced it, we had a lot of people who wanted to come down (to the ceremony). They came down here on their own."
