A survey that appears in the Oct. issue of Men's Fitness Magazine names Southern Illinois University along with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the University of New Orleans and Mississippi State University as the fattest colleges in the nation. Brigham Young University tops the list of fittest colleges, and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois is in the top five.

A train passing noisily over his head fails to waken a sleeping man in Russia, the InterfaxThe engineer saw somebody on the line and braked sharply. Rescuers tried to pull the drunken sleeper from underneath the carriages, but failed, and the train had to continue driving to free him.

Sub-Saharan Africa's last absolute monarch, King Mswati III of Swaziland, presided over ceremonies this week where more than 50,000 bare-breasted virgins vied to become his 13th wife. Wielding machetes and singing tributes to the king and queen mother, also known as the Great She-Elephant, the girls danced around the royal stadium in the hope of catching the eye of the 37-year-old monarch, Reuters reports.

A man is arrested after police say he told a 13-year-old girl to hand a bank teller a note threatening a holdup. Michael Lyons, 45, insists to police that he and a group of girls celebrating his daughter's birthday were simply playing a practical joke. A police report states the note read, "Give me all of your money, this is a stick up. "
