All Upcoming Projects from Robert Simonds’ STX Entertainment

With movies like Molly’s Game, Bad Moms, The Foreigner and The Circle, STX Entertainment Chairman and CEO Robert Simonds has successfully proven his expertise in delivering immersive entertainment to audiences around the world.

The company has been making huge announcements about ambitious projects and stunning collaborations and deals with major companies and big stars. Here are some of the upcoming projects from STX that you should be looking forward to:

  1. Adrift – This STXfilms production starring Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin is set in 1983, and tells the true story about a couple who got stranded in the Pacific Ocean without any communication or navigation tools. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur, Adrift is set to hit the screens on June 1, 2018.

  2. The Happytime Murders – With an incredible cast comprising Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolf, Bill Barretta, Joel McHale, and Elizabeth Banks, this an upcoming comedy film from STX, expected to be released in August 2018. Written by Todd Berger and directed by Brian Henson, this movie features a world where puppets and humans co-exist and someone’s out to murder the cast of 1980s TV show The Happytime Gang.

  3. Second ActRobert Simonds is known for his money making comedy films. Starring Jennifer Lopez, Vanessa Hudgens, Freddie Stroma, Milo Ventimiglia amongst others, Second Act is a comedy movie to be released under STXfilms. Directed by Peter Segal, there is not much information revealed about the plot of the film written by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Justin Zackham. The movie has been scheduled for a November 2018 release.

  4. Uglydolls – The UGLYDOLL line has taken the world by storm, and is now being featured in an animated movie produced by STXfilms. The official announcement for the film was done in 2017, with major updates being released by the company every few months. While the plot of the movie is still not revealed, we know that Pitbull is lending his voice in the movie and is also working on an original song for Uglydolls. Hasbro will be developing merchandise for the franchise and it will be streamed in the US on HULU, with international rights retained by STX.

  5. Mile 22 – An upcoming action thriller from STXfilms, Mile 22 stars Mark Wahlberg, and is directed by Peter Berg. Announced as a single movie in 2015, the project turned into a franchise as Wahlberg and Berg now plan to develop a trilogy of films. The company later also announced that it will be producing The Kiev Exchange, a VR spinoff of the franchise under its STXsurreal division.
