The mechanism

The Tata Hexa gets the same VARICOR engine that powers the Tata Safari. The 2.0-litre turbocharged VARICOR, four-cylinder diesel engine which makes a highest power of 148 bhp and a maximum torque of 320 Nm on the XE trim. The other trims gets a power of 154 bhp and a highest torque of 400 Nm. This power is mated with few transmission options like a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The manual gearbox trims get rear wheel drive and AWD (all wheel drive) modes, while the automatic trim only gets rear wheel drive. In fact, the Tata Hexa is made with Borg Wheel AWD system which can shift 25 to 40 per cent of the toque to the front wheels to get out of difficult situations.

Apart from the all terrain drive, the Hexa comes with four Drive Modes, namely, Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough Road Mode. Out of them, Auto and Rough Road modes are driven on all wheel drive with the latter being more all terrain friendly. The 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox gets various engine choices like Sports, Economy and Auto Sensing Performance mode, along with an option of choosing the gears manually.

In terms of safety, the flagship SUV comes packed with a long list of safety features like traction control, ABS with EBD, rain sensing wipers and automatic headlamps.

Personalisation kits

The Tata Hexa is available with three different customisable kit options like Tuff, Expedition and Luke. These extra kits add on Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1.3 lakhs on the car’s retail price.

The Tuff Kit includes a head up display unit, tyre pressure monitor, wireless charging tray, roof box and 3D floor mats. The Expedition kit comes with a roof platform, 3D moulded floor mats, waterproof luggage bag, a shovel and a bubble lamp. The last Luxe kit cost around Rs. 12,150 and offers chrome inserts on the ORVMs, tail section and side moulding.

The X-Factor

With all its premium features and a best-in-class customer service, the Tata Hexa is priced to kill. The price of the SUV was not confirmed until it was officially launched. After the price confirmation, the SUV, in simple terms, sidelined all competitions by a huge margin.

The base variant of the Tata Hexa is priced at around Rs. 11.99 lakhs, while the top end is available for Rs. 17.5 lakhs. Its close competition, Toyota Innova Crysta starts at Rs. 13.5 lakhs and extends up to Rs. 21.5 lakhs for the top variants.
