1. The Opera House at Night
The entire harbour area at night is a sight to see, especially during the VIVID festival (held in May and June every year) when many of the most prominent buildings, including the Opera House, are transformed into architectural light sculptures.
Even if you miss the festival, the Harbour lights are still dazzling and will be a highlight of your Aussie trip.
2. The Harbour from a Boat
Though the Harbour looks great from dry land, there’s something special about seeing it from the water and the best way to do this is to jump on a ferry.
Ferry routes criss cross the harbour, taking in some of the best views in town as they go.
3. The Botanical Gardens
A visit to the beautiful Sydney Botanical Gardens is a great antidote to the hustle and bustle of backpacking life. And as it’s near much of the best cheap Sydney accommodation, it’s pretty easy to fit it into your tour of the city.
4. Bondi Beach
Though some locals might argue that there are more beautiful beaches around, there is something truly iconic about the famous Bondi Beach and it’s an absolute must for any Sydney first timers.
If you’ve got time, head over for the day so that you can soak up as much of the outdoor Aussie lifestyle as possible.
5. Kings Cross
The area around Kings Cross has undergone something of a revival in recent years and today is home to a lively bar and restaurant scene as well as some of the best cheap Sydney accommodation.
The shear variety of the nightlife in Kings Cross is a sight in itself and is well worth an evening or two during your stay.
Whether you’re seeing Sydney for the first time or you know it so well you’re practically a local, there are some sights that will take your breath away every time.
