Nearly a dozen 7-Eleven convenience stores will wear a new face replicating the famed Kwik-E-Marts from "The Simpsons" cartoon.

Kwik-E-Mart, which was designed in the show to poke fun at 7-Eleven Inc's more than 6,000 North American stores, features unhealthy snacks like Buzz Cola, KrustyO's cereal and Squishees -- a spin off of 7-Eleven's Slurpees.

The 11 newly remodeled stores will carry these snacks and more. To make it happen, 7-Eleven used their current vendors.

Bobbi Merkel, an executive for 7-Eleven's advertising agency, FreshWorks, a unit of Omnicom Group Inc. said, "They've been looking at Squishees and KrustyO's and Buzz Cola for years and have never been able to put their hands on it."

Rita Bargerhuff, 7-Eleven marketing executive, added, "But they won't find Duff beer, the brand chugged by Homer Simpson. The movie will be rated PG-13, and selling a Simpson-themed beer didn't seem to fit. That was a tough call, but we want to make sure it's considered good, responsible fun."

7-Eleven executives were able to keep plans for the project under wraps for months until they covered the store's fronts with foam to give them an animated look.

Kwik-E-Marts are now in the following US cities: New York City; Chicago, Illinois; Dallas, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Burbank, California; Los Angeles, California; Henderson, Nevada; Orlando, Florida; Mountain View, California; Seattle, Washington; and Bladensburg, Maryland.

Merkel said, "We thought if you really want to do something different, the idea of actually changing stores into Kwik-E-Marts was over the top but a natural. It shows they get the joke."

The timing for the project was aligned with the upcoming "The Simpson's Movie," which will hit theaters this summer. 7-Eleven will pay a price the company said is in the single millions.
