Cyberspace is not the best place to get even at an old flame who has set his eyes on another woman.
This was the bitter lesson learned by 34-year-old Pilar Stofega who was charged for second-degree harassment and breach of peace in a Connecticut court for using the Internet to vent her rage.
Stofega, who is out on a $2,000 bail, was discovered to have used the Internet to malign her ex-boyfriend's wife by creating fake profiles on her in several adult websites.
The indicted Stofega admitted to police that she did it "to be vindictive, knowing that the profiles would create marital problems" between the couple. Stofega dated the husband in 1999.
Based on court records, Stofega created phony identification of the victim, a Waterford resident, on several sites. She included the wife's contact numbers and even pasted her high school yearbook photo.
Shortly thereafter, men started calling the victim's residence, supposedly after seeing her profile on the Internet.
Stofega was arrested after the ex-boyfriend discovered that she was behind the insidious plot. When arrested, she immediate owed up to the crime. Stofega is set to appear in court on Monday.
True to adage, one must beware the wrath of a woman scorned, especially if the contemptuous lady is tech-savvy.
