We have heard many negative opinions and news about oil additives. In general, we should be aware that some oil additives are developed by large companies through extensive tests, while others are made by individuals, often without documentation and proper tests. As a result, oil additives could get a rather bad name, especially because it is especially hard to perform extensive development and research. In some cases, sellers could actually selling snake oil to many uninformed car owners. In general, additives are supposed to be used on any kind of lubricants. It is believed that normal lubricants are unable to effectively protect the car and makes it run efficiently.
It should be noted that engines in modern cars are different. They have different range of working temperatures and they typically deliver a fraction of the power to run the car. Regardless of the car we have, it should have the proper cooling system to meet the requirements at all speeds and conditions. Without proper settings, it is possible for the engine to overheat, potentially causing damages. Partially oxidized hydrocarbon and soot caused by inefficient combustion process could form sludge and it could clog and cause wears on many parts.
Oil additives are expected to reduce overall wear in the engine and many car owners expect that it would be the end of the whole story. Unfortunately, things are not so simple. It should be noted that these additives may not adhere to specific specifications of our cars. The public may also not be aware that oil additives should be tested thoroughly. Regardless of how good our oil additive is, we should make sure that it could really give us some added benefits, not ruining our car. In reality oil companies have an involvement in the aftermarket oil additives.
Whatever we do, it all boils down in looking for ways to improve the efficiency of our engine and keep it protected always. We should also be wary of those oil additives sold through multi-level marketing. We should make sure that this additive really works and we need to get reviews from independent car users. In some cases, there’s no or negligible improvement in efficiency that doesn’t cover the cost of purchasing the additives. We should also know that dealers usually go to great lengths providing us with supporting articles, while downplaying those with more critical overviews.
The additives industry is quite profitable and many sellers are promising significant gains in overall performance level. Once again, we should be careful about this and we could actually see those additive manufacturers as a nuisance in the automotive world. Often, we could get the most benefit by using only standard lubricants and change them regularly. It isn’t necessary to add anything if the oil is already fully optimized for our car. Adding new chemicals could cause unpredicted effects and in some cases, they could actually ruin our engines.
