Samsung, the Korean tech giant, is known for its flagship devices having monstrous features, which are really powerful. Each year,the company launches a new flagship device, which has better specs than previous devices. In this post, we will compare two flagship devices from Samsung:Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Design and Display:

Samsung Galaxy S8 is a metallic device with the screen size of 5.5 inches. The screen has 4KUltra High Definition (UHD) display which is not present in many devices. It has amazing pixel density of 801 ppi.  The graphics will be really great on this device. Samsung Galaxy S8 has Super AMOLED display which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass v4.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, on the other hand also has a 5.5-inch display with the dimensions of 150.9 (H) x 72.6 (W) x 7.7 (T) mm. It weighs 157 grams and is also water resistant and dust proof like iPhone 7. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge lacks 4k display but comes with a 2k display which is also great. It has the screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. The pixel density is less than that of Samsung Galaxy S8. It has pixel density of 534 ppi. It also has SUPER AMOLED display and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass v4, Scratch-resistant glass.

Appearance wise, they are almost similar with Samsung logo on the front in both the devices. In Samsung Galaxy S8, there is an 8 MP camera on the front side above the display. There are some sensors and LED notification light above the display. Below the display lies the standard physical Home button flanked by two capacitive keys. These keys are backlit. The physical Home button also acts as a fingerprint sensor. On the right side of the phone lies the power key and on the left side lie the volume buttons. On the back side lies the 12MP dual camera and dual LED flash. The back of the device is non-removable. This device has many sensors like light, Proximity and there is also a heart rate monitor on the back side. Samsung Galaxy S8 supports USB Type C port and 3.5mm jack.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge also has standard Samsung appearance. There is a 5 MP camera on the front side. Below the display, lies the physical Home Button which also acts as a fingerprint sensor. There are two capacitive keys like all Samsung Phones. The power button lies on the right side of the device where as volume keys lie on the left side. The back of the device is non-removable and it features a 12 MP primary camera with LED flash. It also has heart rate sensor at the back. Both the devices support wireless charging.

Performance:

Performance wise both the devices are excellent with superb specifications, though Samsung Galaxy 8 is ahead of Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.Samsung Galaxy 8 is expected to have 8 GB of RAM whereas Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has 4 GB of RAM. Samsung Galaxy 8 has Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 MSM8998 chipset whereas Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has Samsung Exynos 8 Octa 8890 chipset. Samsung Galaxy 8 uses Quad core 2.4 GHz processor whereas Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge uses Octa core 2.3 GHz processor. For graphics, Samsung Galaxy S8 uses newer Adreno 540 GPU whereas Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge uses Mali-T880 MP12.

Software:

Samsung Galaxy S8 runs on the latest Android Nougat (7.0) with its own latest TouchWIzUI on top. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge runs on older Android Marshmallow(6.0) which also has Samsung TouchWiz UI on top.

Camera and Storage:

Samsung Galaxy S8 has an amazing 12 MP dual camera at the back. It features both phase detection autofocus and optical image stabilization. Samsung Galaxy S8 has Dual colour LED flash and usual camera features like exposure compensation, HDR, continuous shooting. It supports 4K video recording at 3840×2160 @ 30 fps, 1920×1080 @ 60 fps, 1280×720 @ 120 fps.For selfies, there is an 8 MP camera on the front side.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has a single 12 MP camera at the back which also supports Phase detection autofocus and Optical Image Stabilization. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has simple LED flash and also supports 4K video recording at 3840×2160 @ 30 fps, 1920×1080 @ 60 fps, 1280×720 @ 240 fps. For selfies, there is a 5MP camera on the front side.

Samsung galaxy S8 has an internal storage of 64 GB which is expandable up to massive 2TB. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has an internal storage of 32 GB which is expandable up to 200GB via a hybrid SIM slot.

Battery and Connectivity:

Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a huge 4000mAh battery which is non-removable. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge comes with 3600 mAH battery which is also non-removable. Both the devices support fast charging and wireless charging.

Samsung Galaxy S8 is a single SIM(4G) device unlike Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge which is a dual SIM device (4G+4G).Both the devices have NFC and heart rate monitor.

The Verdict:

Samsung Galaxy S8 price in India is anticipated to be Rs59,990 whereas Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge costs Rs50,000.Both the devices are flagship phones from Samsung and both are extremely good. Though price is high, yetworth paying.
