HEPA filters were developed in early 1940’s and they were used to prevent the spread of radioactive contaminants during early researches of nuclear weapons. These filters were eventually commercialized in 1950’s and they already become the generic term for any high performance filter. There are increased demands among various industries, such as healthcare, pharmaceutical processing and aerospace, for cleaner air. They can help us eradicate asbestos, mold, dander and dust. However, we should know characteristics of true HEPA filter and it should be able to remove at least 99.97 percent of contaminants, at 0.3 microns or bigger. Many filters struggle to filter objects smaller than 0.3 micron.
HEPA filters are basically consisted of tightly and randomly arranged fibers that can trap very small particles. They intercept particulates through the flow of airstream within specific radius of the fiber and capture then, HEPA filters are known for their superior filtration abilities. They could be quite beneficial for allergy and asthma sufferers. They can trap very fine particles that can trigger allergy and asthma symptoms. Vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter should work well, because the suction power could be combined well with the HEPA filter. This will make sure that the air expelled by the vacuum cleaner is completely free of harmful contaminants. There are two basic designs of HEPA vacuums, upright and canister.
HEPA vacuums with canister design should have stronger and smaller cases that may roll along and follow behind us, as we vacuum the floor, furniture and carpet. It could be attached with long hose and it should be much easier for us to clean hard-to-reach areas. They could have detachable rug beaters that would better than the one used by upright HEPA vacuums. In fact, it is possible to still use the unit to clean dirty surfaces, when the electric motor stops working. Canister vacuum with HEPA filters should allow us to move seamlessly between different areas, without causing scratches on our floors. When choosing vacuum with HEPA filter, we should consider the power of the model and they are often rated by the suction force. The HEPA filter shouldn’t only remove dust and expel clean air, but it should also be able to catch fine carbon dust that the vacuum’s motor generate. Strong seals should be used to dust from being dispersed into the open air.
