When you embark on your yearly spring cleaning mission, you are committing to a deeper clean than your home normally sees when you quickly clean up throughout the year.  To make the most of your cleaning, focus on areas that have been ignored and places/things that have the biggest impact on the cleanliness of your home. Here are a few tips and tricks that will take your cleaning to a whole new level.

Scrub Your Grout

Even when you wipe down your bathroom, you are more than likely not scrubbing each indention between each tile where the grout lies. If you want your bathroom (and other rooms featuring tile work) to really shine, you are going to have to put in some elbow grease to clean and repair grout. You can easily find homemade grout cleaning solution recipes online. Head to your local home improvement or hardware store for fresh grout to repair areas where it is peeling or eroded.

Clean Baseboards and Crown Molding

Take a sponge and warm soapy water to your baseboards, doors, window frames, and crown molding. These spots are often overlooked even when you clean walls and erase scuffs in the paint. If you are really looking for a refresh and have extra time (or money to pay someone), repainting these features in a classic glossy white will instantly transform your space.

Tips For Spring Cleaning Your Home

Swap Out Air Filters

You should be doing this all year round, but you should definitely do it every spring along with your cleaning! Remember to take a picture of each filter in your home (with dimensions) or jot down the measurements before you head to the hardware store.  Stock up on extras during this trip so that you can easily keep up with filters throughout the year—no excuses!

Wipe Off Fan Blades

If you have ceiling fans, you will be shocked to see how much dust accumulates on top of each blade during the winter months. Take a damp paper towel or cloth and gently wipe down each blade (top, bottom, base). A damp towel/cloth helps capture the dust and prevents you from wiping it off and straight into your air.

Condition Wood Floors and Furniture

Use wood polish to buff your floors and recondition wood furniture throughout your home.  This is a great thing to incorporate into your monthly cleaning routine to keep your hard woods gleaming and furniture polished.

Clean Out Your Junk Drawer

Remove all items from junk drawers and clean both the items and the drawer itself before organizing and placing back.  Bonus points if you find items that can be repurposed, recycled, or thrown away! If you are extra ambitious, clean out all drawers and cabinets and wipe down the contents before putting everything back where it belongs.

Wash Your Linens

Wash curtains, slipcovers, pillow covers, tablecloths, and other linens around your home. In addition, steam clean your rugs for an extra satisfying bonus. While you are at it, vacuum couch and chair crevices and other places where dust and debris collect in your home.
